9 Halloween Safety Tips For Kids To Enjoy Fun And Healthy Halloween

Halloween is always fun. Dressing like a horror movie character such as a vampire or ghost and this time many of us will go for the IT movie’s famed pennywise clown. The best part about that is carving a pumpkin and going for tricks and treats. However, if you do not be careful about certain things, things could go out of hand.

Here are the best 9 Halloween safety tips to make it easy on you and still keep it fun for kids:

  1. Carving the pumpkin carefully: Carving the pumpkin with a sharp knife or a sharpie could be dangerous. Children could get hurt easily. So, take extra care while carving the pumpkin. Make a point that an adult is always there to watch over them. If possible, you do all the carving and let your children assist, so they feel they are doing it.

  2. Pumpkin lightings/Avoiding fire: While you finish the Pumpkin carving make sure you put a torch inside it. You can also put battery powered candles inside the pumpkins to avoid accidental fires. You can also go for readymade pumpkin decorations that come with Chinese lights.

  3. Map the route: While letting your children go for trick or treat, make sure you have the map of their route. Explain to them what is likely to be a danger zone. Also, talk to them about which house could be safe for them to take candies from and which houses are not.

  4. Trick or Treat early: If you live in a particular lane, then both the ends would be the dead end. However, if you live in a crowded neighborhood, make sure your children are safe. Tell them to go for a trick and treat before it gets dark. With all the unrecognizable costume and festive atmosphere, it is difficult to differentiate predators from the lot roaming on the streets.

  5. Check the candies: When your child/children come back home, check all the candies they have brought with them (check what your children may/may not eat). Also, sometimes people do not give attention while buying Halloween candies, thus you must check the expiry date and give your children the minimum amount of candies as possible.

  6. Halloween makeup: The make-up is super fun but that needs attention and care. Kids' skin is sensitive, so you cannot apply heavy make-up on them. Go for light and natural makeup which won't hurt them. If you opt for masks, make sure the holes of eyes are bigger than your child’s eye. Also, do not burden them with heavy props and clothes, keep it light yet interesting.

  7. Wear comfortable shoes: Wear comfortable shoes and make your child wear comfortable shoes as well, one which will help them run and not trip. Uncomfortable shoes could make kids trip and invite potential injuries. Solution: comfortable fitted shoes.

  8. Avoid traffic: Since it is a festival, there is of course a lot of traffic on the streets. Make sure you do not take the route that is crowded with vehicles. Do not let the children go far from your lane and neighborhood.

  9. Do not forget your four legged fluff: Like in every celebration, do not forget about your four legged fluff ball. As much as we love them, we tend to forget about our pets while going for the trick and treat and carving pumpkins. Animals are like children, tend to get hurt and become the victim of accidents. Thus, take care of your pet. Do not let them near fire, do not allow them to eat candies and ensure that they are being micro-chipped.
